Automobile floor mats as far as my eye could see. Oh yes, I was at the mall. My wife had decided that we needed those too. Big yay for the goods. But a big "why me?" as far as the shopping goes. I couldn't go so far as to say that my time spent there was the worst experience ever. I have always thought that seeing the silver lining in every dark cloud is the thing to do. I infrequently say that my day didn't go well when someone asks. Suffice it to say that I would definitely not go to the shops on my own. As a matter of fact, if vampires were attacking the town, and the mall were the only safe place, I may just offer my throat up and give up garlic on my pizzas. But strangely enough, I was there anyway.

It seems to me that everyone these days is a pessimist. If your outlook is bleak, all it brings you is yet another strike against you in a situation that you dislike to start out with. It makes no sense. Searching for random items is the bane of my existence. But when you think about the whole scenario, looking for the right automobile floor mats is light on the bother scale. What I am trying to say is that there are distinct levels of being irritated. The upper scale and the lower scale are a universe apart. We're talking someone's supper burning versus someone's woodshed burning. Just not the same at all.
I remember how my dad used to conduct himself. All through his life, being annoyed was his trademark style. No matter how much I try, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I definitely feel that I have the same leanings. He would never endure an entire day of looking through automobile floor mats though. I know there would have been trouble at the very idea. There would be no end to how he would have carried on about it being a waste of time to search for automobile floor mats. It wouldn't matter in the slightest bit what the item was that he was there for. This could be about anything at all. The fact that he was in a shop at all was all it took to get him going. I don't think I ever saw the guy put on a stitch of clothing or a pair of shoes that he didn't get as a Christmas present. Most of the family thought he was a little bit extreme.
Even though I can't help it that I share some of his thoughts on the subject, I am better about it than he is on his most tolerant day. I do go and purchase whatever is required for myself, or what my wife tells me to go get. I think it would be downright muddleheaded to get all bent out of shape over automobile floor mats. One day there was a little bit of verbal sparring between my parents because of my father's tendencies. A great way to explain things would be that it was enough of an incident for me to remember it, but not enough of one to have made me uncomfortable. They were just not getting along. For some reason, he went on the drive with Mom on that specific occasion, but he would not get out of the car for anything. Not even to help her with the bags as she was coming back. She tried to pull him in, wanting the company, and he just wouldn't budge.
She stuck it to him by comparing him to me, as far as loyalty goes, and telling him that I went around with her.
I never told my mom this, but I have always considered that a bad assumption on her part. It's impossible to know for sure if children ever like the activities plotted for them. I had very little choice in the matter if she wanted to take me anywhere. Thinking back on it, I suppose the dynamic between the both of them in my formative years is the reason that I am opposed to shopping now. I was bred to dislike looking for items. And I'll never forget how he responded to her either.
"There's a very easy explanation for that, my sweet. Very simple," he replied. "The kid is a nut!"
Their silly banter ended there. After that comment, my mom just went on, into another store with me in tow. Thinking back on that day, I would really like to drag that old man into a store with me right now and make him look through a hundred automobile floor mats! See how many jokes he's got then.
